How many points am I going to get on my driver's license?

March 10, 2018

By Bailey Legal Group

In Ohio most traffic offenses will result in points being applied to your license by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles ("BMV"). If you are an out of state driver, these points will most likely transfer to your out of state license.

If you have 12 points on your license that you accumulate over a two year period, the Ohio BMV will suspend your driver's license. R.C. 4510.037.

If you have 6 or more points, our firm would encourage you to take an Adult Remedial Course, which will give you a two (2) point reduction from the Ohio BMV. (You can take this course every three (3) years, pursuant to R.C. 4510.037.)

Six (6) Point Violations.

Four (4) Point Violations.

Two (2) Point Violations.

Zero (0) Points.

For additional point information, see the Ohio BMV's website: bmv.ohio.gov/links/bmv_OffenseCodeList.pdf
